It’s only fair that, now that we know which first obstacle is your favorite, we find out which “last obstacle” you love the most!
Which American Ninja Warrior Semifinals/City Finals’ “last obstacle” is your favorite?
The terminology has changed over the seasons a bit, but we’re referring to the same position. After the first round of competition, the Ninjas move on to an extended course. In seasons 1-4, the next course had nine obstacles. In season 5, it moved to a 10-obstacle course. Throughout all the seasons, these extended courses have included some kind of vertical final obstacle.
Similar to the first obstacle in Qualifiers, the last obstacle of the City Finals course remains the same even as the course changes locations. Ninjas in Los Angeles and Ninjas in Baltimore can both expect to face the same last obstacle.
Usually, the obstacle is pretty straightforward. It’s not meant to really confound or challenge the Ninjas’ mental strategies. It’s there as a time-suck and an energy drainer. Kind of as if the producers said, “Oh yeah? Did you make it through all those other obstacles? Let’s see what you’ve got left in the tank.”
In American Ninja Warrior’s 12 seasons, there have been five different final obstacles. (We’re counting the Cargo Climb and Cargo Net from the early years as one obstacle.) They all have varied in how they ask the competitors to rise to the buzzer.
Here they are.
Cargo Climb/Cargo Net (seasons 1, 2, 3, 4)
Spider Climb (seasons 5, 6)
Invisible Ladder (seasons 7, 8)
Elevator Climb (Season 9)
Spider Trap (season 10, 11, 12)
