American Ninja Warrior host Akbar Gbajabiamila’s book “Everyone Can Be a Ninja” is officially for sale today, May 7.
We’ve had a chance to read the book and it’s an insightful look at a side of Akbar that the Ninja Warrior fans aren’t used to seeing. In it, readers learn more about Akbar’s experience growing up in the Crenshaw area, his journey to the NFL, and the struggles he faced breaking into broadcasting and joining American Ninja Warrior.
Along the way, Akbar pulls in stories from the Ninja Warrior competitors and his NFL peers to illustrate the idea that everyone has the ability to face the obstacles in their lives.

I (Nikki, editor of ANW Nation) had the chance to talk with Akbar about his book while we were in Oklahoma City, filming the show. The conversation we had was eye-opening and gave me a whole new perspective on the jubilant host. So much so, that I didn’t want you to read about it, I wanted you to hear it.
So for the first time, I’m sharing the audio recording of our conversation. This was a casual sit down. It didn’t take place in a studio, and Akbar didn’t know (and neither did I) that I would end up wanting the fans to hear what he said. (Akbar does know now. This isn’t a surprise for him.)
But with his guard down, Akbar dove into the reasons this book came about with such genuine authenticity. Any Ninja Warrior fan should hear this.
And you should also check out his new book for yourself!
