Grant McCartney has made a name for himself on American Ninja Warrior as the always smiling, dancing #IslandNinja. Usually, we saw him training at home in Hawaii, which looked delightful.
Lately he’s been hanging out Nick Hanson, an American Ninja Warrior who calls a very different climate home. Nick lives in Unalakleet, Alaska. It’s a small town (small, is in, population is less than 1000) that sits on the Bering Sea. It gets cold up there, very cold.
What do two Ninjas do in Alaska? Build an igloo, of course! Nick and Grant asked if they could share their snowy antics with the American Ninja Warrior Nation fans and we happily turned over the keys to our Facebook and Instagram for an afternoon.
The result was a really cool education about life in Alaska. Nick refers to himself as the Eskimo Ninja and eagerly shared his world with us, with Grant acting as the tour host.
First of all, Nick has a mammoth tusk in his house. He has gigantic fossils IN his house.

Oh no, wait. He’s got two mammoth tusks and a mammoth tooth. Basically he has a museum.

Grant and Nick did not seem to be dressed appropriately for the weather. Which was cold.

Did you know that mammoth tusks are so heavy Ninja Warriors have a hard time lifting them?

They showed off their impressive outerwear.

Yet for some reason, they still wore tank tops outside. But hey, check out that igloo!

During the Facebook Live broadcast, Nick and Grant gave us a view of the outdoors. You can see Nick’s Warped Wall and the ocean. Which was frozen for miles. THAT is cold.

They climbing inside the igloo to prove it was an igloo. We believed you, guys! Also, we would like an igloo of our own now please.

Later, Grant and Nick figured out the wifi was strong enough to broadcast from inside the igloo. They were super excited about it.
